My New Tattoo Faded!!!

Article courtesy of

We have heard this so many times that we just wanted to set the record straight. Most tattoo artists are very good at telling you how your tattoo is going to heal and what to expect. They explain to put either Tattoo Goo, Bacitracin, A&D Ointment and probably 20 other different healing agents on your tattoo for the first 2 weeks. They tell you to stay out of the sun and pool for 2 to 3 weeks depending on the artist. They tell you not to scratch or pick at your tattoo or the scabs.

But what they forget to tell you is that

That’s right. You still have about 1 to 3 days left of healing. This is about the time when we get most of the calls and emails from frantic people saying their new tattoo is faded. Boy are they happy when we chuckle and explain to them that there tattoo is fine and they did nothing wrong.

Let me explain … after your scabs come off there is a layer of skin under the scab that is dead skin. Just like when you get sunburn and your skin peels you get that whitish faded out hazy look over your new tattoo. That skin will then peel back showing your tattoos TRUE COLORS. Then your tattoo has finished healing, right?

Well not really. The top may be healed, but underneath is not. Boy you must be confused now. Well read on and we will explain once again.

A tattoo is basically a scar with ink in it. Your skin is chopped up while needles push ink in. Sorry to make it sound so awful but this is basically what a tattoo is. Scars can take up to a year to heal, so even though your tattoo is healed to the touch it is still healing below.

Now you can either say, “screw it, my tattoo has healed good enough”, or you can take care of your new investment. By the way, if you said your tattoo has healed enough, then you are an ass and you should have never gotten a tattoo in the first place.

Two ingredients that a very good for your new tattoo after it has finished healing is Vitamin E or Lavender Oil.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant. Its action is enhanced by ascorbic acid and selenium. It protects polyunsaturated fats in the body from oxidation, maintains the integrity of vitamin A in the body and promotes normal clotting of blood. Its levels in the body are dependent on proper levels of zinc.

Below is just a short list of what Vitamin E does for your body

Lavender Oil

Lavender is an antiseptic, controls the production of sebum, and stimulates circulation in the skin. Assists in the healing of wounds (aids in the formation of scar tissue) and helps to rejuvenate the skin. Used to treat acne, bruises, cuts, burns, sunburn, inflammation (even though it is not really anti-inflammatory), psoriasis, sores and wrinkles.

You can find these ingredients in Tattoo Goo Lotion. Some of Lubriderm’s Lotions and a countless number of other hand lotions found at your local drug store.

Now you can be dedicated and take care of your investment and your tattoo will look good for a long time, or you can cheese out after awhile and then wonder why, after a couple of years, you are thinking about re-coloring your tattoo.
